Good morning! We’re stepping into June and the weather’s continuing to play games with us (nothing unusual), but is your marketing stepping it up to match that energy?
The people (you) have spoken. This month we'll be doing a deep dive into the wonderful world of email.
Email’s been around for decades now, it’s changed from simple HTML emails to the complex text and extras we’re familiar with today.
Nowadays we can add:
Links
Color and style
Polls
Ads
Multiple text styles
Social sharing
Automations (and more)
And each new capability can help us develop closer and closer relationships with our audiences, partners, and customers.
If you’ve been here since day one (or like a few months), you know the drill: strategy before execution. (And if you’re new you’ll be familiar with the playbook soon.)
Email Marketing: The 10k Foot Strategy
Email’s goal is to share a timely message that makes a reader take a defined action:
Visit web pages
Watch videos or podcasts
Make purchases
Fill out forms
Opt-in for an event
Open a promised resource; etc.
The goals and best practices are different for each email…
…Which is what makes email a much harder method to feel like you’ve “got it”.
Backing out, email is one of the most accessible methods of marketing for all audiences.
Take engagement alone: 88% of users check their email more than once a day, with 39% checking it 3-5 times a day.
Wow.
And with 4.8 BILLION emails estimated to be being sent by 2027 (4.2B in 2025) access is going to increase…and with that engagement is futile unless you’re putting the pedal to the metal.

Where’s Email Fit In?
Think of email as a perfect way to nurture people you’ll work with in the future and a way to keep people who already hit KLT (know, like, trust) and have a relationship in the loop and keep new opportunities front-and-center.
Email is also a great automator, a system that performs repetitive actions at specified times like collecting feedback, delivering receipts, and sharing opted-in resources.

Segments and Personalizing
Segments: created by actions and used to personalize general marketing messages. (Ex: Retail-themed marketing for you vs Coaching-themed content for your friend.)
Personalizing: created by user-submitted information being included in emails (I.e., Hi Frank!)
Both segments and personalized content have their strong and weak points — we’ll be dedicating a whole newsletter to this soon.

Niche Spotlights: Retail and Real Estate
Retail: Engage new customers with a freebie series. Have customers take a series of actions and if they do all of them, send a coupon! This increases the chance of a repeat purchase from someone who’s already performed that action.
Real Estate: Nurture leads through the home-buying journey. Create an email series sent over 7 days breaking down each aspect of the process. When it comes time to perform, you’ve got a bed of understanding from your clients.
